I’m not usually one to follow along when it comes to internet trends, but this one just kept showing up all over YouTube. What caught my attention most was the variety of pairings that could be made with a simple block of cream cheese.
I was seeing cream cheese being combined with every flavor from savory, sweet, spicy, and everything else under the sun.
What was even better than the fact that just about everything went with cream cheese is that it is not difficult to make.
Don’t get me wrong, you still have to make sure to flavor the cream cheese well and smoke it properly. I will get into how to make the cream cheese recipe later on.
Now like I said before, this trend was booming everywhere. Heck, even before trying to make smoked cream cheese myself, a buddy of mine, Chris, decided to give this hot trend a shot.
I got a call from him on the weekend to discuss how he planned to smoke it since at the time he was just diving into the realm of smoking food. We talked for a good 10-15 minutes figuring out his game plan.

When we both were talking on the phone, we were discussing how we were not sure smoking an entire block of cream cheese was worth it.
I cannot remember the exact recipe he tried out, but what I do remember is him saying how impressed he was with it.
That being said, Chris told me that I need to give it shot. That is exactly what I did the next chance I got to smoke something.
I may have gone overboard when buying the cream cheese. For my first-time smoking cream cheese, I bought eight blocks of this stuff. Of course, my intention was to make several varieties to see what combination my favorite was.
Initially, my first thought was to go the savory route. So, first I made two different cream cheese blocks. First I coated in ranch seasoning with a bit of salt and pepper.
The second was a taco seasoning-flavored block topped with melted cheeses.

I bought a couple different kinds of chips to dip into the cream cheese. I tried to pick a chip that fit best with each one of the cream cheese blocks.
To be honest, my first attempt would also be what I would consider my first failure. I would say my first go at this was a 4/10. It was easy to pick up on what my initial issue was, too much salt.
I did not take into account that the cream cheese has a decent amount of saltiness to it already. I still feel the flavors could work better without adding any additional seasoning.
I also, think it could have been improved with a sauce of some sort.
After not doing well with my initial attempt with the savory flavors, I switched over to try out something sweet instead.
Without a doubt, this was a success. It took some fine tweaking, but once I figured it out, I ate like a pig!
Smoked Apple Pie Cream Cheese Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Block of Cream Cheese
- Favorite Apple Pie Filling
- Graham Crackers (I prefer ones with Cinnamon and sugar)
- Brown Sugar
- White Sugar
- Ground Cinnamon
Equipment
- Pellet Smoker
- Apple Wood Pellets
- Knife
- Baking Sheet
- Parchment Paper or Aluminum Foil
Step 1: If you have a pellet smoker, set it to the smoke setting. If you have an offset smoker, try to keep the temperature at 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure to have plenty of pellets in the hopper.
Step 2: Take a baking sheet or whatever you are okay with putting on your smoker and cover it with a piece of tin foil or parchment paper. This will help save on having to wash the baking sheet after.
Step 3: Take a block of cream cheese and cut it in half so that the cream cheese is not as thick. You will end up placing both halves next to each other.
Step 4: Take your brown sugar and sugar and give both halves of your cream cheese a good layer of both seasonings. Then add a little bit of cinnamon on the top side of the cream cheese.
Step 5: Put your cream cheese onto the baking sheet and put them in the smoker and close the lid. Let cook for 1 hour.
Step 6: While the cream cheese is smoking, take this time to crush up a couple of graham crackers to put on top of apple pie filling in the next step.
Step 7: After the initial one hour is up, cover your cream cheese with your favorite apple pie filling, and sprinkle a small amount of brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, and graham cracker over the top of the apple pie smoked cream cheese.
Step 8: For both styles of smokers, increase your heat to about 275 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook for another 15 minutes. Allowing the apple pie filling to get hot and gain some smoke flavor.
Step 9: Take your smoked apple pie cream cheese off your smoker. Let it cool down for 5 minutes or so and then start dipping in with your graham crackers.

You may be wondering why in the picture above half of the smoked cream cheese block does not have apple pie filling on it. This is because my girlfriend, Sabrina is a bit crazy.
Well, maybe she is not that crazy, but Sabrina does not like apple pie. So, I left half the cream cheese plain.
The reason I share this is that even without the apple pie filling, she still dove in and helped devour this tasty treat!

Give this dessert a try both with or without the filling, and I think you will be surprised at how yummy it is! (Trust me, it is better with the apple pie.) Another topping to be used is caramel drizzled over the pie.

I saw this recipe post on Twitter from Josh and figured I’d give it a try since I was going over to my fiancés parents house for dinner. At first was a little nervous cause you wouldn’t think apple pie and cream cheese would pair well but I was wrong! Super DELICIOUS! The recipe was super easy to follow and was a hit at the family gathering! Now I’m in charge of appetizers for future events! Must try!!
Thanks for the comment, Chris! Glad you and the fiancés family enjoyed it! Don’t worry we have plenty of recipes to help keep you in charge of appetizers!
If wrapped in foil, would this stay warm enough to make and travel and eat about 2 hours later?
I think foil might not be enough to keep it warm. You may want to wrap in foil and place in a small cooler. This might keep the warm better.
