Whether you plan to feed a mess of people for a Super Bowl party or just to have a snack to watch your favorite sporting event, a big platter of nachos is a fantastic option.

It just so happens that my Homemade Beef Nacho Recipe will work perfectly for such occasions. You can feed tons of people or even pig out alone.

I say this recipe is homemade because this recipe calls for frying your own chips, making your own pico de gallo, and homemade cheese sauce. The only things that are not homemade are the yellow tortillas before frying them and the blocks of cheese.

Beef nachos

Making everything homemade gives nachos a freshness to traditional nachos that often have overly thick nacho cheese and over-salted chips. A fast way to make nachos is also to do a nacho bake recipe.

Instead, what you have are freshly fried chips with a bit of salt for taste, a light cheese sauce that does not drown your chips, and a pico de gallo that helps give the nacho dish an additional layer of flavor.

Now that I have you thinking about these perfect nachos, it is time to check out the ingredients and what is needed to make this beef recipe.

How to Make Pico De Gallo for Nachos

Step 1: Gather your medium glass bowl, favorite vegetable knife, and cutting board. For ingredients, grab all of the ones in the pico de gallo list.

Step 2: Dice the 6 Roma tomatoes and 1/3-1/2 of the yellow onion (depends on personal preference). Place into the glass bowl.

Step 3: Cut off the top of the jalapeno and remove the seeds. You can keep the seeds if you want added heat. Add to the bowl.

Step 4: Take your cilantro and cut off half of the herb that does not have leaves. After separating, roughly chop up the cilantro leaves and throw away the other half. 3/4’s of the chopped cilantro should go into the glass bowl; the remainder will be used to top the nachos at the end.

Step 5: Mince 2 garlic cloves and cut a lime in half. Add the minced garlic with the remaining ingredients and squeeze the juice from half the lime into the bowl.

Step 6: Mix everything, and season to your liking with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Place into the fridge while preparing the rest of your homemade beef nachos.

How to Brown Ground Beef for Nachos

Step 1: Place the large pan on the stovetop and set the heat to medium.

Step 2: Once the large pan is hot, place the 3 lbs of ground hamburger into the pan.

Step 3: Cook until all the meat is no longer red or pink. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, break up the meat as it cooks.

Step 4: Drain most of the fat at the bottom of the pan, but not all of it. I keep some fat in to keep the ground beef from drying out. Season lightly with kosher salt, ground black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and ground cumin. Season to liking.

Step 5: Take the meat off of the burner and set it off to the side until later.

How to Make Homemade Nacho Cheese for Beef Nachos

Step 1: On a cutting board, cube both blocks of cheese and set them aside.

Step 2: Place the medium saucepan on the stove. Turn the burner to medium heat.

Step 3: Place 1/2 stick of butter into the saucepan and completely melt the butter.

Step 4: Add 2 Tablespoons of flour, whisking each tablespoon. Let cook for 30 seconds to get rid of the flour taste.

Joshs Cookhouse Tips: Adding flour before the milk or cheese is essential to avoid having the flour clump.

Step 5: Add in 2 cups of whole milk. Heat the milk until it is hot.

Step 6: Turn the heat to medium-low once the milk is hot. Start adding in your cubed cheese a handful or two at a time. Completely melt the cheese cubes before adding in any more. Stir continuously.

Adding poblano pepper to cheese sauce

Step 7: Now that the cheese is melted, you almost have a complete cheese sauce. Finely chop half of the poblano pepper and throw it into the cheese sauce.

Step 8: The only thing left to do is add the seasonings under the cheese sauce list—season to taste.

Step 9: Turn the heat to low and occasionally stir to avoid any cheese burning to the bottom.

A great thing about this cheese sauce is that it is great on any style of nachos! You must try my BBQ Brisket Nacho Recipe as well!

How to Make Tortilla Chips

Yellow corn tortillas

Step 1: Place the entire stack of yellow corn tortillas on a cutting board and cut them into 4ths. Pull apart tortillas so they are not stuck together.

Step 2: Put out the baking sheet and place a layer of paper towel down to help soak up any excess oil.

Step 3: Pour canola oil into a large pot until it is filled halfway. Heat the oil to roughly 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 4: In batches, gently place the yellow corn tortillas into the oil, being careful not to splatter the oil.

Step 5: Fry the corn tortillas until the chips have become golden brown and crunchy. Frying the chips only takes a minute or so. Use a straining spoon to pull out the chips. Put any finished chips on the baking sheet with a paper towel.

Continue Step 5 until all chips have been made. After each batch, sprinkle a pinch of salt on the freshly fried chips.

Here Are Some Of My Other Great Recipes!

Finishing the Homemade Beef Nachos

The first thing I like to do when assembling my beef nachos is to make sure to warm up the beef and cheese if they have cooled down at all. Also, remove the pico de gallo from the refrigerator and give it a quick mix.

Once everything is nice and hot again, it is time to finish putting your beef nachos together.

On a separate plate or platter, place down a layer of your corn tortilla chips. Next, add a layer of browned ground beef over the top of the chips. Add a healthy amount of pico de gallo all over. You could even switch it up and use salsa as toppings.

Finally, spoon in as much cheese sauce as your heart desires. Top with jalapeno slices from the remaining jalapenos and sprinkle on the remaining cilantro. You can also add on other favorite toppings such as a couple of cups of daisy sour cream on the side.
